eal Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo can hardly be described as humble, and even he wouldn’t call himself that as he spoke about in an interview back in August, Spanish outlet AS reported. The Portuguese captain has a documentary titled ‘Ronaldo’ set to be released on November 9 and the interview was made public in anticipation of the film’s release.
The former Manchester United player has built his own legacy at Real Madrid and having won all he possibly can with Los Blancos, he is still striving for more. He’ll be looking to further his ambitions as the club have a crucial week ahead where they take on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League midweek and on the weekend travel to Sevilla in La Liga.
About the ‘Ronaldo’ film
We’ve already seen some snippets and a trailer of the upcoming film but still having some way to go in his career, some would call the movie premature. Nonetheless, Ronaldo spoke about how the film came about and why he decided to go ahead with the project.
He stressed that everything in the film is real and expressed happiness that his fans would see him as he is in real life.
“When the idea [to do a documentary] was put to me, I thought it was fantastic. I felt happy about being about to show my fans, my family, what my life is like. I never expected that one day I would open up my life in this way the results are very natural. It’s all real, I’m not a fake, what you see is me.”
On winning and Lionel Messi
A few more moments from the film were revealed including interesting bits of information about what drives Cristiano Ronaldo. The world has witnessed the Portuguese star’s anger on the pitch when things don’t go his way and he spoke openly about these moments, saying: “The most important thing for me is winning. It’s as simple as that.
“I get mad when I lose. Sometimes I regret what I do – I shout and say all kinds of things. My temperament makes me exaggerate everything. But it’s a part of my makeup and those who work with me know that,” the Real Madrid man said.
Ronaldo also spoke about his ‘rival’ Lionel Messi’s achievements as well. The Ballon D’Or holder described his performances over the years as being consistently at the peak and that the competition with someone else is secondary.
He said: “It [Messi’s success] doesn’t bother me. If you look back over my past eight years, I’ve always been at the peak; and that is difficult. Name me someone else who has done it? After that, being No.1 or No.2 is a matter of small details, such as if you win trophies or not.
“Perhaps for you, Messi is the best; in my head, I am the best – and everyone should think that about ourselves. That is why I have been able to achieve so much in my career.
Ronaldo also added: “It was hard for me to watch Messi picking up several Ballon d’Ors. I’d be thinking: ‘Why should I go to the gala?’”
On his father
The story of Ronaldo’s childhood and his relationship with his now deceased father have been a subject of discussion since he rose to stardom, and the documentary addressed that as well. The 30-year-old’s mother wished his dad had been around more.
She said: “If he hadn’t dedicated himself to football, he would probably have fallen into drugs. He was drunk almost every day. I never really knew him well. I would have liked him to have been around more. Although he never mistreated his children, I became his victim.”
